My View of Baltimore
I was always comfortable about living in Maryland. I
remember the day that I was told we were moving like it was yesterday. It was
the beginning of my 8th grade year when my mom had to relocate our
family from New York to Maryland (due to her career in the army). It wasn’t that I wasn’t used to moving
because I moved all the time. It was just the fact that this move came with
some extreme changes. For starters, this was the first time I was going to meet
my step- father’s side of the family. I was so worried about how they were
going to treat me, my mom, and my little sister. This also meant that I would
have to become a part of a whole new teaching environment. To my surprise I
realized that Maryland really wasn’t a bad place to live and that just because you
may see different things on TV that may be out there, doesn’t mean that things
are actually that way.
After experiencing my first couple of months in Baltimore I
discovered how boring and corny things were up here. I also noticed how weird
the people socialize and communicate with each other, and how they love calling
each other out their name. Nobody really uses their own names to address each
other. I found their behavior to be so unbelievable. If they were living in New
York they wouldn’t get away with half of the stuff that they say to each others
in New York. When I lived in New York
there was always something to do no matter what time it was, or if it was a
holiday from the parade, to 42th street, or just sightseeing, New York was
where it was at. Baltimore on the other hand is boring mainly because you have
to drive and take buses everywhere and then to add on to that everything starts
to close at 9 and for the other people that are yet to be 21 there is nothing
to really do.
